| | | Write and Paint were originally thought to be bundled with Windows 1.0 only as a promotional offer, similarly to what Apple did with original Macintosh. However, both Paint and Write (and its successor, WordPad) are included with Windows to this date. |

| |  | Solaris 9 abandoned OpenWindows GUI and stuck with Common Desktop Environment, now in version 1.5. Even if it doesn’t at all look like anything from late 2002, it is an alternative to ubiquitous Windows and Mac OS, worth at least a glimpse.

| |  | Many preference panels for mouse input provide a drawing of an actual mouse, and it is quite interesting to see all the different approaches taken by different GUIs.

| |  | The icon of iCal (calendar application in Mac OS X 10.3 Panther) is a nice and still rare example of those dynamic icons that change their appearance based on context. In this case, the program icon doubles as a current day and month indicator.
